COMPETITIVE CLASS

TAKE THE PLUNGE
WITH A SPLASH OF
ENCOURAGEMENT

Our competitive swimming class is designed for swimmers who are passionate about the sport and are eager to train at a higher level. We aim to help our swimmers achieve their goals and win medals. With our experienced coaches, we focus on honing technique, building endurance, and improving speed to help our swimmers achieve their full potential. This year, we are setting our sights on the MSSS competition and will work tirelessly to ensure our swimmers are ready to compete at their best. The competitive nature of the class also helps children to develop a strong work ethic, perseverance, and resilience, all of which are important life skills that will serve them well both in and out of the pool. Join us for our competitive swimming class and let’s aim for the top together!

What will my child learn in competitive class?

The class will begin with a series of warm-up exercises to prepare the body for the rigorous training ahead.

Swimmers will focus on honing their technique and improving their stroke efficiency through drills that target specific areas of their stroke.

Competitive swimmers need to have strong endurance to compete at their best. Children in a competitive swimming class will engage in exercises that build endurance and improve their cardiovascular fitness.

This type of training involves alternating between high-intensity and low-intensity exercises. Children in a competitive swimming class will engage in interval training to help them build speed and endurance.

Swimmers will also have the opportunity to practice their competitive skills, including starts, turns, and finishes.

Coaches time students to track their progress and identify areas which require improvement. Coaches then improve students timing by analyzing their strokes, and providing feedback and guidance on how to swim with improved speed and techniques.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, competitive students are entitled and highly encouraged to attend all 4 classes per week, as consistent attendance is essential for achieving the best performance. However, we understand that our students may have other activities or commitments that may conflict with their swim schedule. We encourage our students to attend as many classes as possible to get the most out of their training. We look forward to helping your child achieve their swimming goals.

Competitive students are required to prepare fins (bigger size fins with thicker socks to avoid getting cut by fins), paddles, pull buoy, snorkel tube (mask not necessary as students can use goggles), swim board, stretch belt, and sports shoes. You may contact +6011-1131 1157 Admin @ Tropicana Aman Recreational Hub for specific recommendations on what to bring.

It is generally recommended that competitive swimmers do not eat a large meal immediately before their lesson, as this can cause discomfort and interfere with their performance in the water. However, it is important for swimmers to have some source of energy to fuel their bodies for the physical demands of swimming. A small, light snack or meal, such as a banana or yogurt, can be consumed about 30 minutes to an hour before swimming to provide a source of energy without causing discomfort. It’s also important to stay hydrated before, during, and after swimming lessons. Ultimately, it’s important to listen to your child’s body and adjust their eating habits accordingly to find what works best for them.

We understand that children may have other activities that sometimes conflict with their swimming lessons. We want to ensure that our students can still attend their lessons and participate in other activities, so we do allow for late arrivals or early departures. However, we kindly ask that you inform your child’s coach in advance so they can plan accordingly and ensure that your child can still participate fully in the lesson. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us provide the best possible learning experience for your child.

Competitive swimming can be appropriate for children as young as 5 or 6 years old, but it’s important to assess each child’s individual readiness and interest in the sport.

Great news! If your child from 6 to 21 years can do freestyle 300 metres nonstop, 100 metre freestyle under 3:30s, 400 metre individual medley, and 200 metres butterfly nonstop, they are eligible to join our competitive swimming program. We’d love to have them join our team and work towards their swimming goals. Please contact us for more information on how to enrol in the program.

Competitive swimming requires a lot of training and practice in order to improve and perform at a high level. The more practice and training a swimmer can get, the better they will perform in competitions. Sailfish competitive swimming program has multiple classes per week to ensure that swimmers have enough time to practise and refine their techniques, build their stamina, and improve their overall performance. Additionally, competitive swimming often involves a variety of strokes and events, so swimmers need to have the opportunity to train in different areas to become well-rounded competitors.

To help prepare your child to join our competitive swimming class, we recommend enrolling them in our basic swimming lessons and attending consistently to master all four basic strokes. Once they have mastered these strokes, our experienced teachers will refine their technique and train them to swim laps, which is an essential skill for joining our competitive swimming class.
