Frequently Asked Questions
For pre-school, kids class and adult class:
- Swimwear – Choose a comfortable and appropriate swimsuit that fits well and allows freedom of movement. Avoid loose or baggy clothing, which can become heavy and uncomfortable when wet.
- Goggles – Goggles can help students see underwater and boost their confidence in the water.
- Swim cap – For students with long hair, a swim cap can help keep hair out of their face. However, it is not necessary.
- Kickboard – Kickboard is essential to help students learn proper kicking techniques and build strength in their legs.
- Towels – Towels to dry off after the lesson.
- Extra clothes – Have a change of clothes ready if student plans to change out of wet swimwear after lesson.
For infant class:
- Swimwear: Make sure your baby wears a swim diaper and swimsuit or other protective clothing appropriate for swimming.
- Swim cap: If your baby has long hair, a swim cap can help keep it out of their face and prevent it from getting tangled.
- Goggles: Some babies may benefit from wearing goggles during their lesson, especially if they are sensitive to water or have trouble opening their eyes underwater.
- Towels: Bring a few towels to dry off your baby after the lesson.
- Baby shampoo and soap: It’s a good idea to bring baby shampoo and soap to wash your baby after the lesson.
- Snacks and drinks: Depending on the length of the lesson, you may want to bring some snacks and drinks for your baby to enjoy afterwards.
- Change of clothes: Bring a change of clothes for your baby, in case their swimwear gets wet or soiled during the lesson.
- Diapers and wipes: Bring a few extra diapers and wipes to have on hand, in case your baby needs to be changed during or after the lesson.
- A positive attitude: Be prepared to have fun and encourage your baby to enjoy the water and the lesson.
For competitive class:
Competitive students are required to prepare appropriate swimwear, fins (bigger size fins with thicker socks to avoid getting cut by fins), paddles, pull buoy, snorkel tube (mask not necessary as students can use goggles), swim board, stretch belt, and sports shoes. You may contact +6011-1131 1157 Admin @ Tropicana Aman Recreational Hub for specific recommendations on what to bring.
If you do need to eat before swimming, it is best to choose light, easily digestible foods such as fruits, vegetables, and small portions of carbohydrates. It’s also important to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
However, we understand that some students may prefer more individualized attention and personalized instruction. That’s why Sailfish Swim Academy also offers private classes for those who want one-on-one coaching and a more tailored learning experience. Our experienced instructors can work with students of all levels and abilities, whether in a group or private setting, to help them achieve their swimming goals.
For pre-school, kids, young adult and competitive classes at Tropicana Aman Recreational Hub, JFL Kinrara Club House and Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Club, our syllabus includes land training which focuses on stroke correction, building stamina, and strength, essential components of swimming lessons. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure to make the most of the time we have in the pool, regardless of the weather.
As for Sailfish Young Talent Swim Academy, our classes continue rain or shine since we have the privilege of being an indoor pool facility.
We kindly inform our adult swimmers that in the event of rain, their class will be cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but please note that we offer replacement classes that can be availed within 30 days before or after the date of the cancelled session. This ensures that you receive the full value of your course and are able to make up any missed classes. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you back in the water soon.
For children aged 7 and below, we expect them to complete at least one stroke per year, with an additional six months dedicated to safety and self-rescue skills before moving on to independent swimming. After 2 years, we expect them to have completed all 4 strokes and be ready for novice competitions. Again, we understand that each child learns at their own pace and factors such as water adaptability, trauma experience, and social skills may affect their progress.
If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to speak with their instructor or admin. Additionally, if private classes are preferred, we do offer that option as well.
The program starts with a 15-minute warm-up, which includes head movements, arm swings, and squats to get the body ready for more intense exercises. This is followed by a 15-minute running session with speed up and speed maintain calls to improve cardiovascular endurance.
For students aged 7 years old and above, the academy provides a 20-minute stroke strength training session. This includes exercises such as arm circles, shoulder taps, mountain climbers, plank arm rises, skating squats, lunges squats, stream line squads, back up alternate arms, back up airplane circles, and backstroke kicks at a 45-degree angle. These exercises help build strength in the muscles used during swimming strokes and improve technique.
For students aged below 7 years old, the academy provides a 20-minute stroke strength training session that includes windmill arms, stream line, plank arm rises, plank, star jumps, backstroke kicks, freestyle kicks, and squats. These exercises help develop coordination, balance, and agility in young children.
To ensure proper form and technique, the academy also offers a 10-minute stroke correction session that focuses on double and single hand catch, fast pulls for freestyle, breaststroke with streamlines, backstroke with one hand up and one hand down, and butterfly stroke with arm and head movements.
Finally, the academy includes a 5-minute stretching session to improve flexibility and reduce the risk of injury. This includes neck stretches, shoulder rows, prone chest stretches, reverse bridges, sitting hamstring stretches, triceps stretches, butterfly stretches, knee to chest stretches, and extended puppy poses.
Overall, land training at Sailfish Swim Academy provides numerous benefits to students, including increased strength, improved technique, better coordination and balance, and reduced risk of injury.
- Firstly, it can greatly improve one’s physical health by providing a full-body workout that builds cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and overall fitness.
- Additionally, competitive swimming can also provide an opportunity for swimmers to challenge themselves and push their limits, which can lead to a great sense of accomplishment and improved self-esteem. It can provide an outlet for stress and anxiety, allowing swimmers to focus their energy and attention on their training and goals. Competitive swimming can also help develop important life skills such as discipline, time management, and goal-setting.
- In addition to these benefits, competitive swimmers who perform well can also receive recognition and rewards for their efforts. For example, many private colleges and universities offer discounts to swimmers who have achieved certain levels of success, such as representing their state or nation, or winning medals at the state or national level.
Great news! If your child from 6 to 21 years can do freestyle 300 metres nonstop, 100 metre freestyle under 3:30s, 400 metre individual medley, and 200 metres butterfly nonstop, they are eligible to join our competitive swimming program. We’d love to have them join our team and work towards their swimming goals. Please contact us for more information on how to enrol in the program.
The pricing of swimming classes can vary based on several factors, one of which is the facilities available at each location. For instance, Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Club and JFL Kinrara Club House are regular club pools that may offer basic facilities such as changing rooms, showers, and swimming equipment. In comparison, Tropicana Aman Recreational Hub is a new club with world-class facilities and a 50-meter Olympic pool.
Different swimming class locations may have different pricing structures based on the level of facilities and amenities offered. Ultimately, the choice of swimming class location should be based on personal preferences and the desired level of facilities and amenities.
