Swimming is a great activity for pre-schoolers. Some of the key benefits of swimming for pre-schoolers include:
- Physical Development: Swimming develop their gross motor skills, coordination, and overall physical fitness. The resistance of water provides a challenging workout that can help build strength and endurance. Buoyancy of water can help children develop their balance and spatial awareness.
- Cognitive Development: Swimming can help improve pre-schoolers’ cognitive skills, including their memory, problem-solving ability, and attention span. Swimming also provides a unique sensory experience that can stimulate their brains and enhance their sensory perception.
- Social Development: Swimming is a great activity for pre-schoolers to develop their social skills and build relationships with their peers. Swimming classes provide a fun and safe environment for children to interact with others, practice sharing and taking turns, and learn important social skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
- Water Safety: Swimming lessons can teach pre-schoolers important water safety skills, including how to float, tread water, and stay safe in and around the water. These skills can help prevent drowning and give children the confidence and knowledge they need to enjoy the water safely.
Overall, swimming is an excellent activity for pre-schoolers, offering a range of physical, cognitive, and social benefits that can help support their healthy development and well-being.
What will my child learn in pre-school class?
For pre-school, kids class and adult class:
- Swimwear – Choose a comfortable and appropriate swimsuit that fits well and allows freedom of movement. Avoid loose or baggy clothing, which can become heavy and uncomfortable when wet.
- Goggles – Goggles can help students see underwater and boost their confidence in the water.
- Swim cap – For students with long hair, a swim cap can help keep hair out of their face. However, it is not necessary.
- Kickboard – Kickboard is essential to help students learn proper kicking techniques and build strength in their legs.
- Towels – Towels to dry off after the lesson.
- Extra clothes – Have a change of clothes ready if student plans to change out of wet swimwear after lesson.
For infant class:
- Swimwear: Make sure your baby wears a swim diaper and swimsuit or other protective clothing appropriate for swimming.
- Swim cap: If your baby has long hair, a swim cap can help keep it out of their face and prevent it from getting tangled.
- Goggles: Some babies may benefit from wearing goggles during their lesson, especially if they are sensitive to water or have trouble opening their eyes underwater.
- Towels: Bring a few towels to dry off your baby after the lesson.
- Baby shampoo and soap: It’s a good idea to bring baby shampoo and soap to wash your baby after the lesson.
- Snacks and drinks: Depending on the length of the lesson, you may want to bring some snacks and drinks for your baby to enjoy afterwards.
- Change of clothes: Bring a change of clothes for your baby, in case their swimwear gets wet or soiled during the lesson.
- Diapers and wipes: Bring a few extra diapers and wipes to have on hand, in case your baby needs to be changed during or after the lesson.
- A positive attitude: Be prepared to have fun and encourage your baby to enjoy the water and the lesson.
For competitive class:
Competitive students are required to prepare appropriate swimwear, fins (bigger size fins with thicker socks to avoid getting cut by fins), paddles, pull buoy, snorkel tube (mask not necessary as students can use goggles), swim board, stretch belt, and sports shoes. You may contact +6011-1131 1157 Admin @ Tropicana Aman Recreational Hub for specific recommendations on what to bring.
The frequency at which you should swim to see progress can depend on several factors, such as your current skill level, your goals, and how quickly your body adapts to training. However, in general, swimming consistently and regularly is key to seeing progress. Additionally, incorporating other forms of exercise, such as strength training and cardio, can also help improve your overall swimming performance. Hence, Sailfish Swim Academy syllabus incorporates land training for pre-school and kids class.
It is generally recommended to wait at least 30 minutes to an hour after eating before swimming. This is because digestion requires a lot of blood flow to the stomach and intestines, which can make you feel sluggish and uncomfortable in the water. Additionally, swimming on a full stomach can increase the risk of cramps and stomach upset.
If you do need to eat before swimming, it is best to choose light, easily digestible foods such as fruits, vegetables, and small portions of carbohydrates. It’s also important to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

While we appreciate your enthusiasm for swimming, we kindly ask that you do not wear regular clothes or cotton clothes into the swimming pool. This is to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the pool for all our swimmers. Regular clothes, such as cotton, can release fibers and other particles into the pool water, leading to cloudy water and potentially clogging our filtration system. Additionally, regular clothes can also introduce bacteria, oils, and other substances into the pool water that can negatively impact the water quality and potentially pose a health risk to our swimmers.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for all, we kindly ask that you come prepared with appropriate swimwear made specifically for swimming in pools. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a clean and safe swimming environment.
Group swimming classes offer several benefits to students. First and foremost, they provide a great opportunity for social interaction and making new friends while learning a valuable life skill. In a group class, the instructor can incorporate a variety of drills and exercises that cater to different skill levels, making the class more well-rounded. Further, being in a group setting can create a sense of friendly competition and motivation among students to improve their swimming skills. Students can observe and learn from each other’s mistakes and successes, which can help improve their own technique and form.
However, we understand that some students may prefer more individualized attention and personalized instruction. That’s why Sailfish Swim Academy also offers private classes for those who want one-on-one coaching and a more tailored learning experience. Our experienced instructors can work with students of all levels and abilities, whether in a group or private setting, to help them achieve their swimming goals.

At Sailfish Swim Academy, we have set expectations for our students based on age and level of experience. For children aged 7 and above, we expect them to complete all 4 strokes within 2 years, with half a year dedicated to learning freestyle and swimming independently. This will prepare them to join our competitive program and participate in competitions. However, we acknowledge that each child is unique and factors such as water adaptability, trauma experience, and social skills may affect their progress.
For children aged 7 and below, we expect them to complete at least one stroke per year, with an additional six months dedicated to safety and self-rescue skills before moving on to independent swimming. After 2 years, we expect them to have completed all 4 strokes and be ready for novice competitions. Again, we understand that each child learns at their own pace and factors such as water adaptability, trauma experience, and social skills may affect their progress.
If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to speak with their instructor or admin. Additionally, if private classes are preferred, we do offer that option as well.

Competitive swimming can offer a variety of benefits, both mental and physical.
- Firstly, it can greatly improve one’s physical health by providing a full-body workout that builds cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and overall fitness.
- Additionally, competitive swimming can also provide an opportunity for swimmers to challenge themselves and push their limits, which can lead to a great sense of accomplishment and improved self-esteem. It can provide an outlet for stress and anxiety, allowing swimmers to focus their energy and attention on their training and goals. Competitive swimming can also help develop important life skills such as discipline, time management, and goal-setting.
- In addition to these benefits, competitive swimmers who perform well can also receive recognition and rewards for their efforts. For example, many private colleges and universities offer discounts to swimmers who have achieved certain levels of success, such as representing their state or nation, or winning medals at the state or national level.
Great news! If your child from 6 to 21 years can do freestyle 300 metres nonstop, 100 metre freestyle under 3:30s, 400 metre individual medley, and 200 metres butterfly nonstop, they are eligible to join our competitive swimming program. We’d love to have them join our team and work towards their swimming goals. Please contact us for more information on how to enrol in the program.

A child who is potty trained may still have accidents in the water due to the unique physical and emotional conditions of swimming. The water can delay the sensation of needing to use the bathroom, and anxiety or excitement can also affect control. It’s important to use a swim diaper to help contain any accidents and maintain a clean and safe swimming environment for everyone.
Yes, it’s safe for infants to swim at Sailfish because we have taken the necessary precautions, such as ensuring proper supervision, maintaining a suitable water temperature, promoting good hygiene practices, providing a safe swimming environment, and only allowing infants to participate within their skill level.
Absolutely, our classes continue rain or shine since we have the privilege of being an indoor pool facility.
We encourage parents to participate in our group infant swim classes, as it helps to strengthen the bond between parent and child, and ensures proper supervision. However, if a parent is unable to join, we do offer 1-to-1 lessons where the parent is not required to participate.
Babies may vomit during swim lessons for several reasons, including:
1. Overfeeding: If a baby is fed too much before a swim lesson, they may feel uncomfortable or nauseous in the water, which can lead to vomiting.
2. Motion sickness: Some babies may experience motion sickness while in the water, which can cause vomiting.
3. Water ingestion: Babies may accidentally swallow water while in the pool, which can lead to vomiting if they ingest too much.
To prevent vomiting during swim lessons, you can:
1. Avoid feeding your baby for at least an hour before a swim lesson to ensure that they are not overfed.
2. Limit the amount of water your baby ingests by ensuring they do not accidentally swallow water during the lesson. You can do this by holding your baby close and keeping their head above water.
3. Take breaks during the lesson to give your baby time to rest and recover, especially if they show any signs of discomfort or nausea.
1. Swimwear: Make sure your baby wears a swim diaper and swimsuit or other protective clothing appropriate for swimming.
2. Swim cap: If your baby has long hair, a swim cap can help keep it out of their face and prevent it from getting tangled.
3. Goggles: Some babies may benefit from wearing goggles during their lesson, especially if they are sensitive to water or have trouble opening their eyes underwater.
4. Towels: Bring a few towels to dry off your baby after the lesson.

6. Snacks and drinks: Depending on the length of the lesson, you may want to bring some snacks and drinks for your baby to enjoy afterwards.
7. Change of clothes: Bring a change of clothes for your baby, in case their swimwear gets wet or soiled during the lesson.
8. Diapers and wipes: Bring a few extra diapers and wipes to have on hand, in case your baby needs to be changed during or after the lesson.
9. A positive attitude: Be prepared to have fun and encourage your baby to enjoy the water and the lesson.
Absolutely, we understand that sometimes there may be circumstances that require you to freeze your child’s swimming lessons for a month. If you would like to book your slots in advance and pay the fees in advance, we can make the necessary arrangements. However, please keep in mind that if your child is a beginner, missing lessons consistently may have a negative impact on their progress. We highly recommend attending lessons consistently to build muscle memory, endurance, and to develop their skills. We’re happy to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about your child’s progress in swimming and how we can work together to ensure their success.
We accept infants as young as 4 months old. At this age, babies have developed some basic physical abilities and reflexes that can be used to learn simple swimming techniques.
Babies at 4 months old may have developed the ability to hold their breath, control their head and neck, and move their arms and legs in coordination. Additionally, the buoyancy of the water can make it easier for babies to move their bodies and practice different swimming movements.
However, it’s important to note that not all babies develop at the same pace, and some may not be developmentally ready for swim lessons at 4 months old. We recommend to come for a free trial class for our instructors to assess and determine if your baby is ready for swimming lessons.

Yes, your child can eat before their swimming lesson, but it is recommended to wait at least an hour after eating before getting in the water. Eating a heavy meal immediately before swimming can cause discomfort and may make it harder for your child to swim comfortably. It’s best to encourage your child to eat a light meal or snack before their lesson to provide them with the energy they need to swim. Examples of suitable pre-swim snacks include fruit, yogurt, and whole grain crackers. Additionally, it’s important to ensure that your child stays hydrated before, during, and after their swimming lesson, so encourage them to drink plenty of water.
